ETOBICOKE – A man surrendered to Toronto Police after an armed standoff at a  Swiss Chalet in Etobicoke that lasted over three hours.

The incident began at around 4:00pm when a man in his 40′s asked patrons to leave the restaurant through a note to a waitress.

All patrons and staff managed to flee the restaurant for the exception of the manager who barricaded himself in an office.

The man was armed with what appeared to be a long gun or riffle.

Toronto Police spokesperson Tony Vella says that a negotiator from OPP was in constant communication with the suspect. He surrendered just after 7pm with no incident. The manager of the restaurant followed soon after, unharmed.

There were some reports that the suspect had threatened to detonate two bombs if police were to come in. Officer Vella said that there was no evidence that there were any explosives in the restaurant or anywhere else.

A suicide note was found in the premise but it’s unclear at this time if it belonged to the suspect.

The man is now facing a slew of charges.
