TSB Photographer Receives TPFFA AwardMay 11th, 2010 4:22pm
TORONTO – Toronto Street Beat’s photographer Manny Rodrigues has been awarded the 2009 Best Photo in Newsprint award from the Toronto Professional Fire Fighters’ Association.
TPFFA had the following to say about Manny Rodrigues’ photo entry:
“The judges said your photo of two fire fighters tending to an injured young girl resulting from a January car crash on Midland Avenue, ‘captures the concern and compassion of the fire fighters as they comfort a young victim.’ The photo demonstrates the services that our members do going well beyond fighting fires.”
This year’s media awards ceremony was held at the Palais Royale banquet hall, and saw as guests Mayor David Miller, Fire Chief William Stewart, as well as other Toronto Fire Services and City of Toronto dignitaries.
The awards are aimed at recognizing the efforts that the mainstream media puts towards delivering the stories of the man and women of the Toronto Fire Services and the work they do on a daily basis. It re-enforces the importance of showing to the public the hard work put forth by Toronto’s fire fighters.
Manny Rodrigues said “it was truly an honour to receive such recognition from an entity such as TPFFA. The men and women of the Toronto Fire Services do such a great job every day of their lives that it would be unfair not to tell their stories through the media.”
