Fire Rips Through Multi-Million Dollar HomeDecember 16th, 2009 1:07am
NORTH YORK – A fire ripped through a house on Lauderdale Dr. today leaving the structure in ruins. Toronto Fire Services personnel were dispatched to the scene just after 4pm to discover the blaze already consuming part of the rear of the home.
Despite efforts to contain the flames from inside the home, fire crews were soon forced to take a defensive position and move outside due to the instability of the structure.
After approximately three hours from the time the blaze started, the home was fully engolfed in flames.
Houses to either side of the fire were evacuated, but TFS was confident that the flames would not spread to them.
There are reports that one firefighter was taken to hospital but the extent of his injuries are unknown. People who were in the home when the fire broke out were able to flee to safety unharmed. There was also a contractor crew on the scene who had been working on the home at the time of the incident. It’s unknown at this time if their work was responsible for starting the blaze.
The homeowner also advised police on the scene that there were firearms and ammunition in the home. Toronto Police and Toronto Fire Services took the necessary precautions to ensure everyone’s safety at the scene.
